Extensions FAQ's
- {Q}
I like to visit indoor tanning
booths, and I am getting synthetic
hair extensions soon. Can I still go tanning without ruining
the synthetic hair?
{A}
Yes, pending your extensions are either Monofibre, Thermo
Fiber, or partially
Kanekalon (which you shouldn't have a full head of
anyway). But
just to be safe wrap a towel around your head while tanning (if
available), or wrap up your tee shirt around your hair.
- {Q}
I like to go tanning indoors, I have human hair extensions
with a
fusion method. Will the heat from the tanning bulbs harm my
bonds?
{A}
No, the tanning lamps with not
hurt your bonds, whether; fusion, adhesive, pinch braid, micro ring
(with
or without silicone) shrinkies, copper tubes, sew in, etc. But just to
be safe wrap a towel around your head while tanning (if available), or
wrap up your tee shirt around your hair.
- {Q}
How much does it cost to get
an install of hair extensions?
{A}
It really depends on several factors; what type of extensions
you
want, the quality and amount of hair, your location, etc.
In
general, "name brand hair" hair extensions at a salon, will
cost you
around $1,500.00+. Smaller salons, or individual hair dressers will
charge $100.00's less. (and be just as skilled, if not more).
Human
hair will cost a lot more than even high grade synthetic. Do your
research!
- {Q}
Will hair extensions ruin
my hair?
{A} Not everyone who wears extensions will have problems,
things to consider are: current condition of hair, any current hair
loss, any medical conditions, if you bleach your hair, have your hair
relaxed or chemically straightened, the method of install (yes, some
are safer than others), time extensions are left in without maintenance
or removal, etc.
- {Q}
Does having hair extensions
hurt?
{A} The first 3 days or so they will feel uncomfortable, heavy, and/or
tight but should
never hurt. Please return to your extensioneer asap to address any
pain. This is very serious as you may experience hair loss and/or bald
patches!
- {Q}
Can I do extensions on
myself?
{A} Doing
something the wrong way can seriously
ruin your hair and possibly cause injury!
We recommend having a
friend help you with installation, this is very helpful when doing the
back, especially with a fusion iron, or just strand by strand in
general. Of course we want to say you should go to a professional, but
honestly, some "professionals" may ruin your hair as well.
- {Q}
I just got extensions done and they look horrible!
The color doesn't
match (hair is too curly/straight, there is not enough hair,
etc).
{A} GO BACK and talk to your
extensioneer,
you are paying for a service, you deserve proper care. Kindly explain
the issue you are having and most professionals will correct the
problem (within reason) within a certain time frame (usually a week to
one month). Most professionals care more about you being happy than you
calling with an issue. Keep in mind going to another location, or
possibly extensioneer of same business, will want to charge you extra
to remove or fix the so-called problem. Some may not even look at your
hair if someone else has installed it.
- {Q}
I recently had stand by strand extensions put it and they are sliding
out!
Not just one or two, or even 10, but like 20 a day! HELP!
{A} PLEASE go back to the person who did your extensions. They will
want to know the types of shampoos and conditioners and general styling
products you are using. Make sure you follow their after care
instructions!!
- {Q}
I just got extensions and
there is not enough hair!
It looks like I have a mullet! :(
{A} Most professional have a point at the head where they will not
install extensions past, since most people work from the nape (neck
area). This stopping point is usually the temples (right above your
eyes). A good way to prevent or be rid of "mushroom head" is to have a
professional razor your hair in layers, or hair more extensions higher
up, although they may refuse to add more with the possibly of the bonds
or weave showing.
