Information on Unnatural Hair Colors

Please select one of the following:

Unnatural Hair Dye
The dye itself.

There are several different dye formulas out there, ranging from semi permanent cream formulas to level 3 permanent formulas, some people elect to use drink flavoring powders, food colors, acid dyes, or whatever else they can find.

The information listed here will include information regarding the cream based "semi permanent" dyes in those little round plastic jars; like Manic Panic or Punky Colour.
You can purchase these at your local beauty supply store, head shop, or in our Shop.
In stores prices usually range from about $9.00 to $14.00 (usd) for a 3.5oz to 4.0oz jar depending on your location.
Amount of Hair Dye Needed

~

If your hair is touching or before your chin (between lines 0 and 1) you should only need 1 jar.

If  longer than your chin but before your shoulder line  (between lines 1 and 2) 2 jars may be required.

If longer than your shoulders but before your bra line (try to imagine boys!) 3 jars may be required.

If past your bra line but before your navel (between lines 3 and 4) 4 jars may be required.

You may want to order 1+ jar especially if you have thick hair, or for touch ups!

Timing

Timing greatly depends on the level of color saturation you would like the resulting hair color to be.
For example, if you desire a vivid, bright, or dark hair color your would leave the hair dye in longer than if you wanted the result a tint or pastel hue.

Another factor relating to timing would be the starting color of your hair.
If you're starting out with your natural hair color you'll general want to leave the color in twice as long over pre-lightened hair.

As a general guild line we recommend leaving this
type of dye in for at least 1 hour.

Manic Panic will not harm your hair as it does not contain hydrogen peroxide nor ammonia.
Pre Lightening Hair

If you desire intense hair color pre bleaching is important.
Of course, we recommend seeing a licensed stylist for this, yet, some people elect the do it yourself bleaching route. Either way, you will achieve more vivid and loner lasting color by pre lightening.

After Care

After that first application, make sure you rinse until the water runs clear
(yes, it can take forever!) then blow dry until completely dry.
If your hair color looks a little dim and you'd like it brighter, or deeper,
now is the time to do the whole process all over again.
Maintenance

Hooray! You now have bitchin' hair! But how do you look after it?

Unfortunately the hair color will most likely bleed a bit during shampooing.
Certain colors (reds, pinks, purples) will bleed a lot less than others (blues, greens, black). It's inevitable.

Make sure not to over shampoo, meaning preferably less than 4 times a week.
Conditioner is just fine, it won't harm your color.
As far as styling products go, hairspray is your best bet,
moose and gels may leave a colored residue on your hands.
